1.      ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Marmaris International Yacht Club and the Offshore Yachting Club of Rhodos are organizing the Sailing Race for offshore boats "CHANNEL REGATTA", which will be held from June 21st through June 26th, 2008 in South Eastern Aegean Sea. 

2.      VENUE
The event will be sailed on the waters of the South East Aegean Sea.

3.2     The Secretariat will remain open on working days from 09:30 to 18:00 hrs local time.

4.      RULES
The event shall be governed by the following publications valid in the regatta dates:

  • The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005 - 2008.
  • The IRC Regulation (part 1, 2 and 3).
  • The ISAF Special Regulations Governing Offshore Races (2008 – 2009)

The Event is classified Category 3.
VHF channels 16 and 72 are mandatory.

  • The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
  • This Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions issued by the Organizing and any

amendments there to.  

5.      EVENT SPONSOR
5.1     Sponsors of the "CHANNEL REGATTA" will be announced later.  

6.      ADVERTISING
6.1     The "CHANNEL REGATTA" is qualified in category C, Regulation 20 (I.S.A.F. Advertising Code) and, as so, yachts that wish to carry personal advertising during the regatta must comply with the requirements of the Rule mentioned above and furthermore with the requirements of their National Authority.
6.2     The provisions of Regulation 20 will be enforced from Saturday, June 21st 2008, 07:00 hrs until Thursday, June 26th 2008, 24:00 hrs, local time.
6.3     Yachts carrying personal advertising must have the relevant written permission from their National Authority and must submit a copy of this permission along with the entry form. 

7.      ELIGIBILITY
7.1     Boats holding a valid IRC certificate (non endorsed), with overall length equal to, or greater than 7.00 m., are eligible to enter the event.
7.2     The entry fees are: 50,00€ per person on crew, plus 50,00 € per yacht. 

8.      ENTRIES
8.1     Entries shall be lodged to the M.I.Y. Club Secretariat not later than Saturday, June 21st 2008, 19:00 hrs, local time.
8.2     Entries shall be made on the enclosed Entry Form.
8.3     A copy of a valid Measurement Certificate Entries shall accompany each entry.
8.4     The Organizing Authority reserves the right to accept entries after the entry time limit. 

9.      SCHEDULE OF RACES AND SOCIAL EVENTS
9.1     The "CHANNEL REGATTA" will consist of a series of 5 races.
9.2     The schedule is as follows:

10:00 to 19:00 hrs:            Measurement and inspection day.
19:00 hrs:                         Time limit for entries
20:30 hrs:                         Skippers’ Meeting.
21:00hrs:                          Opening ceremony.

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, Marmaris
1st Race:                          Triangle Course
Distance:                         10 nm approx

Monday, June 23rd, 2008, Marmaris
2nd Race:                          Triangle Course
Distance:                         10 nm approx
20:30 hrs:                         Prize giving ceremony of the 1st and 2nd day races.

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008
3rd Race:                          Marmaris - Rhodos
Distance:                         22 nm approx
20:30 hrs:                         Prize giving ceremony of the 3rd race, in Rhodos.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008, Rhodos
Free Day.

Thursday, June 26th, 2008, Rhodos
4th and 5th Races:              Windward - Leeward Course
Distance:                         6 nm approx each
20:30 hrs:                         Prize giving ceremony of the 4th and 5th races and
overall winners.
21:00 hrs:                         Closing ceremony. 

10.     SUBDIVISION OF CLASSES
10.1   The Race Committee may split boats into classes in accordance with the relative rules. The list of the subdivision of classes will be available at the Skippers’ Meeting. 

11.     TIME CORRECTION SYSTEM

    • The “Time on Time Scoring” will apply for all classes for IRC yachts.

12.     SCORING
12.1   The "Low Point" scoring system will apply. (RRS Appendix A4)
12.2   The winners of the "CHANNEL REGATTA" will be designated by the total of their points on all races.
12.3   All races of the "CHANNEL REGATTA" have the same value.
12.4   Details about ties will be included in the Sailing Instructions. 

13.     SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
13.1   The Sailing Instructions will be available to competitors at the Skippers’ Meeting. 

14.     MEASUREMENT CHECKS AND INSPECTIONS
14.1   All boats shall be made available to the Measurement Committee for random measurement checks and inspections, on Saturday June 21st 2008 from 10:00 to 19:00 hrs, local time.
14.2   The Race Committee reserves the right of inspecting any boat without prior notice before or after each race.
14.3   Each boat must hold a copy of her Measurement.
14.4   All persons in charge or boat-owners must be aware that according to R.R.S. 78.1, they are responsible that the boat is kept according to the Class rules.  

15.     CREW LIST
15.1   The person in charge of each participating boat must submit a crew list with the full names of all persons aboard, till Saturday, June 21st 2008, 19:00 hrs
15.2   Changes in the crew composition are permitted, provided that the Race Committee is advised in writing, on the specific form available by the Secretariat, not later than one hour before the start of each race.
15.3   For safety and responsibility reasons concerning the person in charge of a boat and the Race Committee, the identification of a wrong or inadequate crew list may disqualify the boat in this race. 

16.     DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
16.1   Competitors participate in the "CHANNEL REGATTA" entirely at their own risk. Attention is drawn to RRS 4 “Decision to Race”.
16.2   The organizing authority will not accept any liability for personal or material damage, injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the "CHANNEL REGATTA". 

17.     SKIPPERS’ MEETING
17.1   Skipper’s meeting will be held at Marmaris, on Saturday, June 21st 2008, at 20:30 hrs, local time. The location will be announced in due time.

18.     TROPHIES AND PRIZES
18.1   Prize will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall winner of each class.
18.2   Prize will be awarded to the 1st winner of each class for each individual race.
18.3   A diploma will be awarded to all crewmembers of the participating boats. 

19.     PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
19.1   The prize giving ceremony to the winners of "CHANNEL REGATTA" will be held on Thursday, June 26th 2008, 20:30 hrs, local time, at Rhodos. 

20.     CHARTS AND PUBLICATIONS
         The following charts are recommended:
Greek chart Nr. 4, 42, 423, 45, 451, 4511, 4512, 4513, 452, 453, 374, 3402
Turkish Chart Nr.312, 313B, 3121A
or appropriate Admiralty Charts. 

21.     INSURANCE
         Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.
